“I Wanna to Go Fast!!!”

After the recent release of “Fast and the Furious: New Model. Original Parts,” my friends and I have been on a race car high. We all drove out of the parking structure of the movie theater with a sudden urge to go 120 mph on the freeway. Instead of feeding that urge and risking our lives, or getting a ridiculously pricey ticket, we headed up to MB2 Raceway, an indoor Go-Kart racing track in Sylmar, Calif.

When we walked into this place, the racing atmosphere took us all by surprise. These little go-karts were going almost 50 mph, while wild rock music played loudly in the background. The track, which appeared to be a warehouse, was cold and windy from the go-karts speeding by. We all walked up to individual computers and entered in all of our information, even giving ourselves racing names. Mine was Ricky Bobette, in honor of the great Will Farrell’s character Ricky Bobbie, from the film “Talladega Nights.” From there we went on to an instruction session, where one of the track workers gave us brief information on race track etiquette and emergencies.

Finally, the time we all were waiting for. The Race. We all put on our neck guards and helmets and headed to our designated cars, then took off. Watching the huge screen on the wall to see who was in the lead, we continued to cut each other off and even in some cases swerve out of control. Adrenaline rushed through our bodies as we sped around the curves and zig zags in the race. I got a complete arm work out from all of the sudden turns on the track. After roughly 30 minutes and 14 laps around the track, the race came to an end. Exhausted, we all headed to the front desk to get a print out of our stats.

Although I did not win, I had the time of my life. I would recommend this place to anyone, whether they have a passion for racing or not. This place has the ability to change anyone’s perception of racing. MB2 Raceway in Sylmar is one of two indoor racing tracks.
