What do you think is the most popular Japanese food? Maybe, you think Sushi is the most. However, Sushi is not a common food for Japanese people and they don’t often eat it.

It is definitely Ramen.

Ramen originated in China became popular after World War 2. After that, Japanese chefs developed Japanese style Ramen and has been very popular since. Since the late 1970’s many Japanese restaurants that specialize in Japanese-style Ramen have been opening in the U.S. Especially in cities with many japanese residents such as Los Angeles.

Ramen is Japan’s most beloved dish. Japan has a unique custom of eating Ramen after drinking Sake. 

In most cases, Ramen soup is comprised of a base broth and flavorful seasonings. Ramen chefs play with the balance of these different ingredients to create original Ramens. Many Ramen shops mix several broths to add to the depth of flavor.

Shoyu Soup

The most orthodox soup, seasoned with soy sauce.

Shio Soup

It is a clear soup broth, seasoned with salt, and lighter taste.

Miso Soup

It features a broth that combined copious amounts of miso.

Tonkotsu Soup

A soup made from simmered pork belly and pork bones.

Seafood Soup

A soup made from seafood such as bonito, anchovy, seaweed, scallops etc.
